Bladder & Bowel Control — Men & Women

Stress Incontinence

A little leak when you cough, laugh, sneeze, lift, or work out — that’s stress incontinence, and it’s one of the most common (and most fixable-feeling) reasons people quietly reach for pads. It happens when the pelvic floor can’t quite hold against a sudden increase in pressure. Many patients find meaningful improvement once those supporting muscles and tissues are strengthened, without surgery.

We don't just strengthen the pelvic floor

Pelvic floor strengthening

Where it is clinically appropriate, the EMSELLA® chair does the muscle work. You sit fully clothed for 28 minutes.

Health teaching

We work through the four things that drive bladder control: hydration, bladder irritants, pelvic floor muscle strength, and bladder retraining.

Strengthening does the muscle work. The teaching is what helps you understand and support your bladder health beyond the treatment sessions.

What happens first: a Pelvic Floor Consultation with Shannon Lapointe, a Certified Continence Advisor. Not everyone needs treatment — and we will tell you if you don't.

What it is

Leakage under pressure, not urgency

Stress incontinence is leakage triggered by physical pressure — a cough, a laugh, a jump, a heavy lift. Unlike overactive bladder, there’s usually no urgent warning; the pelvic floor simply can’t seal against the sudden load. It often follows pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, or (in men) prostate surgery.

Who it affects

Common, and rarely talked about

It affects women most often, particularly after childbirth and around menopause, and it affects men after prostate surgery. It is extremely common — and equally common to say nothing about it for years. Bringing it to us is simply a practical step toward feeling like yourself again.

How we help

Strengthening the support that holds

We assess what’s contributing to your leakage first, then build a plan around it.

EMSELLA® — Pelvic Floor Strengthening

EMSELLA® prompts thousands of deep pelvic floor contractions per session while you sit fully clothed — helping rebuild the strength and coordination that hold against pressure. Many patients find their leaking eases over a course of sessions.

O-Shot® PRP — for women

For women, the O-Shot® uses your own platelet-rich plasma to support the tissue around the urethra and bladder neck. Used alongside EMSELLA®, it supports both the muscular and the tissue side of stress incontinence.

Shannon’s Credential — Certified Continence Advisor Shannon Lapointe holds the Certified Continence Advisor (CCA) designation — a postgraduate clinical credential focused specifically on urinary and fecal continence assessment and management. It means your assessment brings continence expertise that goes well beyond operating a device.
How to start

You don't have to commit to anything to find out if this works.

Bladder and pelvic-floor care begins with a complimentary consultation with Shannon — so you understand what is happening and what would help before you decide anything.

1
Complimentary · with Shannon

Your Consultation

Meet with Shannon for a complimentary continence and pelvic floor consultation. She will review your symptoms, relevant medical history, bladder or bowel concerns and contributing factors, explain how pelvic floor strengthening and health teaching may help, and discuss the most appropriate next steps.

2
When clinically appropriate

Experience EMSELLA®

An EMSELLA® experience may be included when clinically appropriate — the pelvic-floor treatment you sit on, fully clothed. Whether it suits your situation is Shannon’s clinical judgment, discussed at your consultation.

3
You choose the path

Your Pathway

From there you choose the approach that fits — a physiotherapy-led program or our standard program — with pricing laid out plainly and Shannon guiding which is right for you.

This is more than access to a chair. Depending on what your consultation finds, your care may include clinical history review, continence education, bladder and bowel health teaching, pelvic floor strengthening, behavioural recommendations, and referral or medical follow-up where appropriate.

Free · Private · 2 minutes

Do you leak with activity?

The bladder-leakage screener (ICIQ) helps you gauge stress incontinence — free, private, about two minutes. Overactive-bladder (OAB-V8) and prostate-related (IPSS, men) screeners are here too.

How We Actually Treat It

This is more than one machine

EMSELLA® is a useful tool and it does a specific job well — it strengthens the pelvic floor without you having to do the work perfectly on your own. But it is one part of continence care, not the whole of it, and a clinic that offers you only a chair is offering you an incomplete plan.

What proper continence care includes:

Health teaching and behavioural strategy

Often the highest-value part, and the part most often skipped: bladder retraining and timed voiding · urge-suppression technique · fluid strategy — how much, and when · caffeine, alcohol and bladder irritants · managing constipation, which loads the pelvic floor · correct pelvic-floor engagement, which many people are doing wrong without knowing it.

Pelvic-floor training

Assessment of what your pelvic floor is actually doing, then training it deliberately. Some people need strengthening; some need to learn to release. Treating the wrong one makes symptoms worse, which is why we assess rather than assume.

Technology where it helps

EMSELLA® and, where appropriate, other in-clinic treatment — used because your assessment indicated it, not by default. If EMSELLA® is part of your plan, the cool-down after each session matters — a short breathing sequence that releases the pelvic floor after the work. Why the cool-down matters →

Medical review and referral

Some symptoms need a physician’s work-up before anything else, and some need urology, gynaecology, urogynaecology or pelvic-floor physiotherapy. We will tell you plainly when that is the honest answer rather than treating around it.

Reassessment

We check whether it actually worked

Continence care is measurable, so we measure it. At the end of your active care there is a progress review comparing where you are against where you started — not a vague conversation about whether you feel better.

That review decides what happens next: results reached and care moves to maintenance; more improvement wanted and we plan further active care; or something is not adding up and we investigate or refer. If it did not work, we will say so.
