Before prostate treatment or surgery

PREPARE — getting ready for prostate treatment

If you have a prostate cancer diagnosis or a prostate procedure scheduled, there is useful work that can be done before it happens. PREPARE is preparation, pelvic floor training and education — not a replacement for anything your specialist has planned.

Your specialist team stays in charge

Your urologist, oncologist and surgical team remain the primary decision-makers for your prostate care. Nothing on this page replaces their advice, changes your treatment plan, or affects the cancer care itself. PREPARE sits alongside that plan — it does not compete with it.

We work from what your specialist has already decided. If anything we suggest conflicts with their guidance, their guidance wins, and we will tell you so directly rather than leaving you to reconcile it yourself.

What PREPARE is

Preparation, training and education

Men who go into prostate treatment already knowing how to find and use the pelvic floor, and already understanding what recovery will actually involve, tend to face the after-period better prepared. PREPARE is built around that window of time before treatment.

PREPARE typically includes: pelvic floor assessment and training · teaching you to correctly locate and engage the pelvic floor before you need it · education on what to expect for bladder control and sexual function afterward · a plan for the recovery period · where clinically appropriate, instruction in vacuum device use.

On device use

Where a vacuum device is clinically appropriate, we teach you how and when to use it. Required use is not required purchase. If you already own a suitable device, bring it — we will review it with you. Any device we sell is a separate purchase and is never bundled into a program.

What PREPARE is not

No regenerative treatment before surgery

We do not perform PRP or other regenerative sexual-function treatment before prostate surgery or radiation. That is a firm rule, not a case-by-case judgement, and it applies regardless of how well you are otherwise doing. Regenerative treatment belongs to recovery, after treatment is complete and after your specialist has cleared you.

PREPARE also makes no claim to change your cancer outcome, your surgical result, or how your oncologic care unfolds. It does not shorten treatment, improve margins, or alter anything your specialist is managing. It prepares you — your pelvic floor, your understanding and your plan.

What comes after

Recovery is two separate conversations

After prostate treatment, bladder control and sexual function are addressed as two distinct pathways, not one bundle. Most men care about bladder control first, and that is the right instinct — we follow it.

Continence comes first

If bladder control is your priority, that is where we start and that is what the appointment is about. We will not push an erectile-function conversation on you while you are still working on continence. Sexual function recovery is there when you want it, and it requires specialist clearance before active treatment begins.

How we think about it

One piece of a larger picture

Preparing for prostate treatment touches the pelvic floor, continence, sexual function, sleep, stress and confidence all at once. Some of those will matter a great deal to you and some will not matter at all. A first appointment is where we find out which ones are actually in play for you, rather than assuming.

Hormone and metabolic care is not part of any prostate program. If hormones come up during prostate care, that is a separate conversation with your specialist involved — it is never folded into prostate treatment here.

Not sure whether this applies to you?

If you have a prostate procedure scheduled, or a diagnosis and no plan yet, a first appointment will tell you whether preparation is worth your time.
