Bladder & Bowel Control — Men & Women
If you have both the sudden urgency of an overactive bladder and the leak-with-activity of stress incontinence, that combination is called mixed incontinence — and it’s very common. Because two things are happening at once, the most helpful plan is one that supports both. Many patients find that addressing the pelvic floor as a whole eases the picture on both fronts.
What it is
Mixed incontinence blends urge symptoms (that hard-to-defer “go now” feeling) with stress symptoms (leaking on a cough, laugh, or lift). Usually one pattern is more dominant than the other, and understanding which is leading helps shape the right approach.
Who it affects
Mixed incontinence is seen most in women, and becomes more likely with age, after childbirth, and around menopause; men can experience it too, particularly after prostate surgery. It’s common, it’s manageable, and it’s worth a conversation.
How we help
Because both patterns share the pelvic floor, we start by assessing which is dominant, then support the system as a whole.
EMSELLA® — Pelvic Floor Strengthening
EMSELLA® prompts thousands of deep pelvic floor contractions per session, fully clothed — helping strengthen and coordinate the muscles involved in both urgency and activity leakage. Many patients find both aspects ease over a program, and we tailor the plan to whichever pattern is leading. Where hormones play a role, we discuss that at your assessment.
Bladder and pelvic-floor care begins with a free conversation and a free trial — so you can feel the difference before you ever decide.
Sit down with our Patient Care Coordinator to talk through what's happening, what's behind it, and exactly what your options and costs would be. No exam required, no obligation.
Experience a session of EMSELLA® — the pelvic-floor treatment you sit on, fully clothed — at no cost, so you can feel how it works before committing to anything at all.
From there you choose the approach that fits — a physiotherapy-led program or our standard program — with pricing laid out plainly and Shannon guiding which is right for you.
Take both quick screeners — leakage (ICIQ) and overactive bladder (OAB-V8) — to see where your symptoms sit. Free, private, about two minutes each.
Start with a complimentary in-person consultation and a free EMSELLA® chair trial — no pressure, no exam, completely confidential. We’ll give you an honest read on what’s likely to help.
