Prostate Care — Three Pathways
Prostate care is not one conversation. Preparing for treatment, rebuilding bladder control afterward, and recovering sexual function afterward are three separate pathways with different timing, different goals and different clearance requirements. Pick the one that matches where you actually are — you do not have to take all three, and you do not have to take them in any particular order.
Start Here
Most men arrive with one of these three situations. Each is a complete starting point on its own.
Your urologist, oncologist and surgical team remain the primary decision-makers throughout. Nothing here replaces their plan or changes your cancer care. We work alongside it.
Pathway Two
Leaking after prostate surgery or radiation is common, and it is the thing most men want dealt with first. That instinct is right, and we follow it.
Continence recovery is its own pathway and its own appointment. If bladder control is your priority, that is what the appointment is about and that is what it stays about. We will not turn it into an erectile-function conversation. If and when you want to discuss sexual function, you raise it — and it is a separate decision, not a condition of getting help with your bladder.
This pathway focuses on pelvic-floor rehabilitation, bladder retraining and the practical work of getting control back. It does not require any sexual-function assessment to begin.
Pathway Three
RECOVER is our post-prostate sexual function recovery pathway. Prostate treatment affects nerves, blood flow and tissue, and erections often change as a result. That change is real, it is physical, and it is frequently improvable — but it is worked on deliberately, and on a timeline your specialist sets.
Specialist clearance is required before regenerative or active sexual-function treatment begins. We do not start this pathway on our own judgement. Your urologist or oncologist confirms you are ready, and until that clearance exists we focus on education, pelvic floor work and planning.
We do not perform PRP or other regenerative treatment before prostate surgery or radiation. Regenerative treatment belongs to recovery, after treatment is complete and after you have been cleared.
Hormone and metabolic care is not part of any prostate program. There is no hormone pathway embedded in prostate care here. If hormones come up, that is a separate conversation involving your specialist — never something folded quietly into prostate treatment.
RECOVER makes no claim to change your cancer outcome or alter the oncologic care your specialist is managing.
What It Is
As men age, the prostate commonly enlarges (benign prostatic hyperplasia), which can obstruct and irritate the bladder — producing a weaker stream, hesitancy, dribbling, urgency, frequency, and waking at night to urinate. The pelvic-floor muscles that support male continence also weaken over time, just as they do in women.
After prostate surgery or radiation, two things commonly need rebuilding: urinary continence and erectile function. Both come back faster and further with an active pelvic-floor and circulation plan than with waiting alone — and that rehabilitation is an area where our tools fit well.
Some urinary symptoms need a physician's work-up first — we always make sure that has happened, because the point is to treat the right thing. What we add is the pelvic-floor strengthening and circulation-focused recovery that men are rarely offered.
The Approach
EMSELLA® — Male Pelvic Floor Strengthening
Men have a pelvic floor too, and it is central to urinary control — especially after prostate surgery. Seated fully clothed on the EMSELLA® chair, focused electromagnetic energy drives thousands of deep pelvic-floor contractions, rebuilding the strength and coordination that support continence.
Circulation & Erectile Recovery
After prostate treatment, erections depend on rebuilding healthy blood flow to the tissue. Regenerative options — focused shockwave (GAINSwave®) and P-Shot® PRP — work on exactly that, and are commonly used as part of post-prostatectomy recovery. Shannon will set realistic expectations for your specific situation.
Health Teaching & Bladder Retraining
Fluid timing, bladder-retraining techniques, and the daily habits that ease urgency and nighttime waking — the practical continence coaching that makes the in-clinic work hold.

Candidacy
The validated IPSS urinary symptom score rates severity in a couple of minutes — a useful, private baseline to bring to your consult. Results on screen instantly.
Two people with the same complaint can need very different things. Sexual function is affected by blood flow, tissue health, pelvic-floor function, hormones and metabolic health, medications, sleep, stress and general health — and more than one of those is usually involved.
How much treatment, and in what order, is decided at your clinical assessment — not from a web page or a quiz. Age is part of the context, not the deciding factor. Individual treatments remain available. Read the full picture →
After Prostate Surgery
Urinary leakage after prostate surgery is one of the most common — and most under-discussed — parts of recovery. Many men are told to wait and hope, or that another operation is the only route. That isn’t the whole picture. The muscles that maintain continence can be supported and strengthened, and many patients find meaningful improvement without further surgery.
EMSELLA® — Pelvic Floor Strengthening
EMSELLA® uses focused electromagnetic energy to prompt thousands of deep pelvic floor contractions per session while you sit fully clothed — helping strengthen the external sphincter and pelvic floor muscles that support continence after surgery. Many men find this helps with post-surgical leakage as part of a recovery program. Shannon holds a Certified Continence Advisor designation, so your assessment brings specific continence expertise.
